Wedding Day After Session with Emily and Derek

My sweet, sweet cousin, Emily married the love of her life almost 3 years ago and I was honored to be a part of her Dallas wedding. I scrambled with her as she and Derek moved their wedding from Houston to Dallas in just days because Houston was being evacuated by Hurricane Ike. Their wedding was beautiful, and the love they share for one another is an incredible thing to watch. Our family reunion was this past week and we spent a few days on the beaches of Galveston as we do every year. Derek and I talked about surprising Emily with an anniversary session, but quickly let the cat out of the bag after I realized we would need some clearance from her to put that beautiful Maggie Sottero wedding gown in the waters of the gulf.

The house where we stay every year is on the beach. The stairs from the deck lead directly to access of the beach, so it was convenient for us to get dressed and just mosey out for an hour or so near that beautiful golden hour. Jon, Sammy and I were at Moody Gardens when Em texted me to find out when we were going to shoot. Derek’s parents were going to be joining our family that evening from Houston, so we had a full house. Em emerged from one of the rooms with her wedding dress on and most of the family didn’t know we had planned this impromptu day-years-after session, so they were excited to observe. I usually don’t shoot for an audience, so I was a bit nervous to have 10+ people watching our every move, including the matriarch of our family, Nanny. Nanny walked on to the deck and took a front row seat for the show.

The two of them are naturals in front of the camera. All of the laughter we had during the session was so much fun. Please enjoy this personal session of two of my favorite people!
