You know the first time you meet someone and say, “how do you know (insert awesome friend here)?”. That’s how the first of our wedding photography consult went when I sat down with Rebecca and Cody at Kona Grill in Dallas (great food too!!). Turns out, we know a lot of the same people and we have never crossed paths. Small small world. Instead of talking about their wedding photography, we talked mostly about our mutual friends (all good of course). She is great friends with Gia, my partner in crime for underwater photography. She is a hair stylist, he is in real estate, and together they are tons of fun. Rebecca messaged me to schedule their engagement session and mentioned a few places. I suggested a location with a few other bells and whistles the ones she mentioned didn’t have. They were sold. This park is filled with wild flowers, a creek (that runs), a bridge, tall TALL trees, untouched grass, and for their session, big huge white puffy magical clouds. We were about to start and Cody asked if I was going to tell them what to do. I can not hear this question without thinking about the scene from Talladega Nights … “I’m not sure what to do with my hands…” We played in the wild flowers for a bit, then I spotted a hill and if you make it all the way to end of this post, you will see what I saw. A few scares with bugs, tall grass, slippery rocks and dangerous good looks were the rest of the session. I quote a few more movies. They kissed a few more times and Cody said he would need to watch some more movies before the next time we saw each other so he could keep up with me. I was born with a photographic (no pun intended) memory and I can remember the strangest things. My husband calls me a walking encyclopedia of useless information. Yep, that’s me. Rebecca and Cody, you are awesome and it was fun to hang out and make great images with you!

April has been an exciting month for this Dallas photographer! I have had 15 sessions and 4 of those have been weddings. I have said it before, I don’t think Texas has a wedding season, but I might be eating those words. Meet Lexi and Bo! These two love birds will be getting married in September at one of my favorite Dallas wedding venues – Hickory Street Annex. We talked a bit about their engagement session. I like to call them “get to know you” sessions. Its our chance to get to know each other, laugh together and have a great time before the wedding. We started our session at the Annex in Dallas and got a wonderful backdrop on the urban distressed venue. We made our way around different parts of Dallas and ended in a romantic park near Highland Park. The green Asian Jasmine as ground cover is so beautiful in portraits and we couldn’t resist. We even had an America’s Next Top model model off between Lexi and Bo – Bo said he won, but didn’t want to hurt Lexi’s feelings. They both were smokin’ hot, so I am calling it a tie!

Elizabeth and Kevin met me on a Saturday morning in Addison, Texas to discuss their wedding plans and me being their wedding photographer. During our consultation I showed them an actual client wedding album that was about to get shipped. As Elizabeth flipped through the pages oohing and ahhing, she stopped and said, “Hey, I know that guy!”. I am really surprised how often this happens in such a big city, Dallas. I grew up in a small town. There were literally 68 people in my graduating class! If I heard this in the town I grew up, I would think no big deal, but in Dallas, where sometimes we never even see our next door neighbor, it is always music to my ears.

We talked about a few locations for their engagement session, and agreed the Fort Worth Botanic Garden would be a great fit. Elizabeth and Kevin arrived and looked so sweet, I started shooting and getting to know them better. Such a sweet couple and I am really looking forward to their wedding this June. I shot Elizabeth’s bridals earlier this week … stunning! I have to keep those beauts under lock and key until the wedding day, but I was beyond thrilled with the results from the day. Enjoy and it was a true pleasure!

Who knew Texas had so many vineyards near the Dallas Fort Worth area? These vineyards are starting to see a lot of wedding time since their beautiful landscapes lend such a great appeal to the local brides. Meet Lindsay and Tanner. They live in North Carolina and decided to have their wedding take place in Lindsay’s home state of Texas. When I talked with them I imagined all of the beautiful plans for their wedding. My camera and my eyes were in for a surprise when I saw it all come together on a beautiful spring day in Burleson Texas at the Lone Oak Winery. Lindsay wore a stunningly breathtaking Pronovias wedding gown. The detail of this dress was magnificent paired with her Grace wedding shoes. Her grandmother hand-made her veil and seeing it flow in the wind was just perfect. Kate Foley Designs was there to create a full masterpiece complete with succulents in the bridal bouquet and draped streamers dancing in the wind at the ceremony site. Kate also had a few aisles ending with mason jars full of flowers….perfection. The couple’s heartfelt ceremony left me a little teary eyed and most of the guests too. After the wedding, we made our way through the vineyard for some romantic couple portraits. The reception included lemonade, iced tea, antique suitcases to hold the guest favors, bocce ball, croquet, bean bag toss, horseshoes, and decor fit for a gorgeous Texas couple. They departed from their wedding with a sparkler send-off and hopped into a slick red Lincoln Continental convertible with black leather interior. It got about 15 minutes of camera time in the vineyard! Thank you for having us document your wedding, Lindsay and Tanner – we wish you nothing but a lifetime of happiness and may each day be better than the last.

When I met Ashley for the first time, I was instantly smitten. She and Carter (check out their Fort Worth Engagement Session) are kind, funny, warm, sweet, and caring people. The first day we met, she told me she loved me … true story. I told her I loved her back. They are that cool! We talked back and forth about her bridal session and where to go. She knew she wanted different and we had a place in mind, but at the last minute that wonderful idea was shot down. We decided to make our way to the design district of Downtown Dallas and then Dallas’ Old City Hall for second part of the bridal session. With different we thought urban with a gorgeous wedding dress would do just fine. It was a little chilly that day so in between photographs, Ashley would slip a blanket around herself to keep warm. You wouldn’t even know it was cold. Ashley was a trooper and worked the lens like a professional. Now onto the shoes … she had 4 shoe changes. Yep, four. We went from cowgirl boots, to sexy heels, to fun Chucks, to pink golf cleats. Carter works in the golf world and gave Ashley some pretty pink cleats and we worked those into the bridal session. Top this session off with some gorgeous light, a fun bride and we called it a day. I like pictures of flowers or trees and mountains sometimes but my eyes get wide and I really start paying attention when I see a smiling face. We set our compasses for the west from Dallas toward Fort Worth. I met Ellie and Khong (aka John) at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. Per Ellie’s text message, they were just “chillin” on a bench inside the office with a red balloon and a bag of surprises for me. As soon as we saw the two of them, I was instantly inspired by the Disney movie UP. And wouldn’t you know it….the character in Up is named Ellie as well! So we didn’t set out to add another great adventure to their adventure book, but we did have a great time and made some fabulous images with the two of them. They are getting married this spring and their wedding will be outside of Dallas in Coppell, Texas. Their story is great. They grew up in different parts of the United States and the great state of Arkansas brought them together.

Ellie’s eye and fashion forward sense takes 100% credit for the look. We worked together to find a location that they loved and after that, everything fell into place. Charlie and Theresa (more on her later) were out for the fun and I am excited to let them share their take on the day as well!

When we first walked into the gardens, I was drawn to the larger trees first. The pop of color in their outfits paired with the red balloon was sure to make a striking combination against the soft mature trees. After playing with the light there we made our way into the rose gardens, which were not as active this time of year, but still very beautiful. Ellie mentioned a weeping willow at the beginning of the session and as soon as I spotted one near the water, I told her we needed to get her in the darker outfit and make our way there near the golden hour.

Ellie and Khong, I can not wait for your wedding and I had a wonderful time with you all!

Wedding season is about to hit Dallas full blast. I am starting to see warmer temperatures and these couples are ready to get on the schedule for their awesome sessions! Allison and Nick became engaged after a 7 year courtship. They met in college in Michigan. We visited the Dallas Arboretum for the first part of their engagement session because that is where Nick asked Allison to spend forever with him. I just love to incorporate the couple’s story into our sessions. It makes them so special to the couple and I get to know them even more. They met me with a smile, a selection of awesome outfits and we were off. Charlie was out with us for the fun!  The weather was a warm 65 degrees in February….hooray for awesome weather! After the Dallas Arboretum, we made our way down to White Rock Lake for some sweet romantic shots near the water. This awesome dock is near the Filter Building in Dallas. I have been itching to shoot there after Charlie showed me an awesome session he did there. The sun started to set and it was painting a beautiful sky. The bands started and we just couldn’t stop. I think I said, “oooh, I have an idea…just one more” about 20 times. They were up for it and ready for whatever we threw at them. Congratulations, Allison and Nick….I can’t wait for your wedding at the Stoneleigh in just a couple of months!

Its not every day I am able to share such an intimate wedding ceremony with two people. I first met Jamie and Beau at a local Starbucks where she showed me her wedding binder. As we flipped through the pages, she turned to a style page and I was more than excited to let her know one of the images she found on Google and printed for her book was actually mine! They got married at a very quaint justice of the peace wedding ceremony in Richardson, Texas. The Dallas County Government Center was bustling with people, but as I sat with the two of them, they acted as they were the only two on earth. The excitement was in the air as they waited to be called back for their appointment for forever. I met the two of them that morning and our plans originally didn’t include any photography at the actual civil ceremony, but I just had to tell the whole story. Its sweet, its romantic and so very intimate. I admit to having eyes filled with tears during the sweet ceremony in the judge’s chambers. They exchanged vows in front of a bookcase filled with law books. Simple, sweet and perfect for them!

After they exchanged their sweet vows we made our way down to Hickory Street Annex in Dallas Texas and there we spent the next couple of hours documenting two very sweet newlyweds. After a wedding, I love setting aside time to photograph the new married couple. Its a time to take it all in and they realize….”WE ARE MARRIED!”. Its very romantic and sweet. I was ecstatic to be able to spend this time with Jamie and Beau…they were beaming with joy! After our time together, the couple was off to enjoy a relaxing honeymoon as newlyweds.

Photographing my first Jewish wedding was an exciting time. I learned about a Ketubah ceremony and many other Jewish traditions. Danielle and Patrick are truly two of the sweetest people and I am so very fortunate to have been able to share their joy on their wedding day in Las Colinas at the Omni Mandalay. Leading up to the wedding, we had an absolute blast at their engagement session and her stunning Dallas bridals yielded some of my favorites to date.

Here’s their story….SUNY Binghamton brought Danielle and Patrick together and from there, sweet, sweet love was born. The timing was a rough as Danielle had committed to a semester abroad and the inseparable couple was separated by oceans. Patrick didn’t want to stand in the way of Danielle’s dreams and wanted her to follow her heart. Like a scene right out of a rom-com, Danielle flew abroad and home within 48 hours, she decided to give this wonderful man she had fallen hard for, a real shot. Her heart was right. The two fell madly and deeply in love.

Fast forward: Pat and Danielle hop on a plane for a last minute romantic vacation to San Francisco. While touring Muir Woods outside SF, in the middle of a beautiful backdrop, in the midst of the magnificent redwood trees, Pat got down on one knee and said, “You came into these woods as my girlfriend and I would like you to leave as my fiance, will you marry me?”

Amelia and Brooks were married in March at beautiful destination wedding in Mexico, but made it to Dallas for a wedding celebration with friends and family. They invited me to document the festivities. Amelia and Brooks live in Washington DC. Leading up to the wedding reception in the Dallas area, we had only corresponded by email and phone. Upon meeting them on their wedding day, it felt like I had known them forever. They were like long lost friends. That’s so awesome when that happens!

The bridal suite at the venue is jam packed with little touches for any photographer to have a field day with. From the rich and vibrant wall colors, to the antique typewriter, then the plush furniture. Amelia and Brooks set aside a lot of time to do portraits that day because there wasn’t going to be a wedding ceremony. So, we roamed around downtown Plano with some balloons, lots of laughs and two very wonderful people in love. The atmosphere was relaxed, fun and full of personal touches. Amelia’s mom, Sue did so much to make the wedding beautiful. The venue, Event 1013 in Plano was overflowing with so many unique touches….table runners sewed by Mom, cupcakes from the best recipes, planters filled with greenery, and a much more! They had an absolute wedding fiesta, complete with enchiladas, salsa, and specialty sodas from Mexico. It was a great day to celebrate love, laughter and family. Thank you all for making us feel so welcome.

I title my engagement sessions “get to know you” sessions. Its a chance for me to get to know the couple, them to get comfortable in front of the camera. This was the true meaning of that. This should have been a “great to meet you” session.

I set out for Ennis Texas from Dallas yesterday with only a location set for our engagement session. Olivia contacted me several months ago by email inquiry about my wedding photography. She lives in a pretty rural area and access to phone and internet is bit difficult at times. Bobby’s Mom rang me up from Olive Branch Mississippi (super close to Memphis Tennessee) and asked about the date for their wedding. I chatted with her about Tops – my favorite sandwich shop in Olive Branch and we talked about their wedding. Due to it being such a popular date they booked me with out a meeting. I hadn’t talked to Bobby or Olivia on the phone, met them in person or even had more than few emails back and forth before meeting them. After just few emails from her, she sounded like a person I would love to just hang out with….her story is truly inspiring!

I was only minutes away from Olivia’s family farm when I got a call from her letting me there would be horses and lots of other special items to them at our shoot. To say I was excited is an understatement. Horses are such sweet animals and I could pet their soft noses and floppy mouths all day. Hildalgo is the horse you see and he was great. Olivia’s horse is also beautiful and I have several with both of them. This is just a sneak peek of this very special day and I can not wait to share the rest with you! Enjoy.

Enter Eddie….the groom. I have known this man for mostly all of my life. He and my brother were high school friends and when I got the email that he was getting married and that he was interested in my photography, I felt like a grown up. He sat across the table from me and warned me about doing a good job because, “he had changed my diapers”. Ok…no pressure or anything. Anne was a glowing bride. She was very excited about the wedding and eager for the day. She started to share all the ideas she had for her wedding and I started to share with her some of my favorite wedding professionals who I knew could flawlessly execute her vision.

We were able to have Anne’s bridal portraits at the Aldredge House and she was stunning. The wedding day was set in the garden at the Aldredge House and the weather could not have been more exquisite. The ceremony was scheduled for early afternoon and the cloud cover came in for the ceremony and made the most beautiful light for a garden wedding. Honestly…it was breathtaking weather. The couple celebrated with friends and family inside the venue with delicious food and cake. For the exit, Anne and Eddie chose streamers…..wow! I have never seen such a production. A few months ago I received a wedding inquiry from a couple who was planning a destination wedding and they only wanted a couple of portrait sessions before their wedding….change of plans….that union is turning into a Dallas event and I am beyond excited to work with this couple.

Ashley and Carter, you light up a room when you are together. Your love story made me smile from ear to ear. Two hearts brought together by the information highway of love….FACEBOOK! You made the rain stop and the sun shine for our session together (literally – what is it with me and rain lately? My clients are my good luck charm. I keep getting lucky with clear skies). The temperatures did plummet, but the quilt and your warm embraces kept each other warm. Your dog Sadie was just almost small enough to fit in my camera bag….bring her to the next session and I will see if I can sneak her out of your site … Sammy would love to play with cuter than cute dog!

These next two are the same image, but the black and white vs color here had me torn….so you decide, which is your favorite processing on this image?

They are getting married in June of 2012 in Dallas at Highland Park United Methodist Church, they both live in Oklahoma, he was a college baseball pitcher, she is a recent college grad, and they were high school sweethearts. We started OUR relationship long-distance. Over the phone at least and I was so delighted to meet this couple in person. We anxiously started the day with a bit of an over-cast fright and also we just happened to schedule a shoot at the Ballpark in Arlington during a renovation and a Dallas Cowboy Game (or when it was over and the fans were all exiting the over-sized stadium near by). Needless to say, we were a little confined with our space selections upon arrival at the park. They were texting me and calling on their way frantic about the weather and traffic. I was about to pull plan B out, we I saw a break in the clouds and decided we were going to do it!

Meet Meredith and Andy – two people that I am pretty sure if it HAD started to rain, would have danced and sang in it for the entire engagement session. I was giggling and having a fun time with them as soon as we stepped out of the car. We discussed our game plan, crossed the street and aimed for the fences with our first request. Meredith had inboxed the Ballpark in Arlington and never heard back about shooting inside. Since we didn’t have a NO, we decided to ask for a YES. Aimed with our most persuasive faces and a love story no one could resist, we entered the gift shop to find the park was a complete mess from renovations. So, we opted for the exterior PLUS Andy was getting a little squeamish anyway from their recent loss in the World Series and needed some fresh air. A quick wardrobe change and some gorgeous golden rays of sunlight later, we wrapped up the shoot in Arlington.

This summer I had a GIANT portrait session giveaway and some pretty amazing people came along with me to make this a truly awesome experience. Now that the weather has cooled off, the pools are left lonely for the next few months and the gear is still drying out a bit for next season, we bring you the fun filled behind the scenes video from this spectacular underwater session. I had a very distinct vision when creating this shoot. I wanted to have the records floating. It turns out, vinyl records do not float. We used a few different items to creating that floating effect and with the help of a great team, we pulled it off.

Check out the video above and then below see more of the images from the day. I have already started to get inquiries for this service and I am still figuring out the costs for this type of session. Its a very extensive portrait session and a lot goes into the preparation, the actual shoot and then after, more extensive editing is required to create colors that are natural and not tinted blue and washed out. It is still fun and exciting – my next want is to shoot in open water. I am just waiting for it to warm up a bit.

In other exciting news, I was introduced to Triple Scoop Music thanks to an email from Borrow Lenses (shout it out!). This site lets you add music to your slideshows, website, portfolio, client galleries, and more with a one time fee. If you are streaming music without the artists permission, you are streaming music illegally. This would be a very expensive lesson to learn. Check out this site, some really great tunes to add to your music library for your commercial use.

As I edit these family photographs from White Rock Bath House Cultural Center many memories flood my mind. Cortney, Bryan and Bryant were some of my very first clients and I am reminded about the journey in which photography has taken me. I have met so many clients along the way and many of them I am amazingly proud to call friends and loved ones. This is so much more than a job to me – photography is a love and I hope to spill a little of my love in each image I share. Family portraits to them come about once a year and last time marked the first time they drove from San Antonio to spend time with me. I am so honored to have repeat clients like this and those that will make a day trip to have me create a memory of a milestone in their lives. Cortney is a super-creative and inspiring girl, so she was filled with ideas about the session. She brought along outfit changes, hand-crafted props (that she beautifully made) and lots of laughs. As we walked the walk around White Rock Lake, we spotted one of my favorite docks and started to shoot there. One of the VERY kind members of yacht club decided that was not enough for family portraits and invited us in a little further for some more interesting backdrops. One of those was a boat…..it was a happy accident that we were able to shoot a few frames on a boat, but totally worth it. Some from that series really remind me of a Hilfiger ad from shot in the Hamptons or something. She even held my reflector for me and offered us food and drinks. Dallas people are so cool. A few weeks (er months) ago, I posted a sneak peek of this great couple I photographed in the heart of Downtown Dallas. I admit it here ….. D’Marcus, your smile is so contagious. I literally smiled back at my computer screen when editing your engagement session! Without further ado…..meet D’Marcus and Bianca. They are pretty awesome.

I first met Bianca and D’Marcus when Lauren (a fabulously brilliant Dallas Wedding Planner) introduced us. Bianca shared some amazing ideas she had for her wedding and their portraits sessions. She even created a board on Pinterest JUST for me. A few emails and lots of ideas later, we scheduled the engagement session. We started our session at The Maple Manor in Dallas and she wanted a very old Hollywood Glam look. I huge thank you to Monique at the Manor….you are so gracious and wonderful! They arrived to the venue with props in hand and lots of cuteness. I really loved the long strand of pearls and black lace gloves she brought with her. D’Marcus looked incredibly dapper in his suit and vest. The venue was the perfect location for the look she was going for. We wrapped our fun-filled session in a more urban setting in downtown Dallas. I nearly jumped when I saw Bianca’s jacket….ahhh – love that color. Doesn’t she look incredible in it?? We even had a seat at a stop on the DART rail. The light coming in from the moral was so beautiful. There are so many wonderful images from this session and these two were a dream to photograph. The love they have for one another is obvious and they were so natural in front of the camera. Enjoy this preview from their session! Mallory and Ryan were married at the Dallas Museum of Art and had a beautiful DMA Wedding. Check out their super cute Dallas engagement session. They started off the wedding festivities with their rehearsal at the DMA followed by a dinner at Stephen Pyles’ restaurant just a block from the Museum. We celebrated with them as they rehearsed what was to be a phenomenal wedding. The restaurant had a special menu for Ryan and Mallory for all in attendance. Look closely for that special touch. That Friday morning, Mallory and her bridesmaids were getting ready the gorgeous historical Fairmont Hotel in Dallas and I arrived to the room to find all smiles and excitement. Mallory had her Kate Spade shoes lying on the bed and her Monique Lhuillier dress hanging near the hotel room window. I am pretty sure my heart skipped a beat when I saw it. I have never seen such a unique wedding gown and the beading was incredible. After the girls were dressed, we darted off to the Museum for some fun girls only pictures in the Sculpture Gardens. Ryan and his groomsmen arrived shortly after and we worked the lights for some dramatic guy formals.

During the ceremony, Mallory’s father walked her down the stairs to the corridor and they made a grand entrance. The ceremony was beautiful. The officiant described the couple’s love for one another and their mutual love for arts. It is no surprise to me after hearing this why they chose that venue to say forever to each other. There was a floral focus around the couple to mimic the beautiful Chihuly glass exhibit lining the large glass windows in the atrium of the DMA. Mami and her team at Botantical Art are truly artisans. I have NEVER seen such unique floral design in my years of photographing weddings. They were some of the best florals I have ever seen! Enough describing this fantastic wedding….feast your eyes on these goodies.

Its a classic story of boy meets girl at Church. Well, maybe not so classic. Romantic? Yes! Their wedding will be in Dallas and its just around the corner. When Michelle first contacted me about her wedding photography, I responded with, “wow – your wedding is really close” and her response to me was priceless….I know and I can’t wait! They have a shorter engagement than most, but all they want to do is spend the rest of their lives together and start that journey as soon as possible. Meet Michelle and Richard. I introduced you to them in a sneak peek a few weeks ago when I posted a few images from their Richardson Engagement Session. Our time wasn’t quite finished. We needed one more location to make the session complete and tell the story of Michelle and Richard. Richard grew up near Prairie Creek Park…literally. The creek was almost his front yard. He mentioned having part of the session there, but the early sunset had other plans for us on the day we scheduled the first part of the session. I was on my way to Houston, when we met during their lunch break to wrap the session in the creek. Oh, I am so glad we did. It was a perfect day. The sun was shining, the creek was running and the leaves were turning. The weather was perfect and so are Michelle and Richard. I have mentioned it before, but fall is truly my favorite time of year. I love the colors from the foliage, the sun seems to take on a different hue and the crisp fall air is so sweet.

They are kind, thoughtful and their love for each other is quite evident. Thank you for showing your love to me and letting me capture a giant milestone in your lives together. I can’t wait…..t-minus 10 days!
