Ashley and Carter Engagements

dallas forth worth wedding photographer (1)

A few months ago I received a wedding inquiry from a couple who was planning a destination wedding and they only wanted a couple of portrait sessions before their wedding….change of plans….that union is turning into a Dallas event and I am beyond excited to work with this couple.

Ashley and Carter, you light up a room when you are together. Your love story made me smile from ear to ear. Two hearts brought together by the information highway of love….FACEBOOK! You made the rain stop and the sun shine for our session together (literally – what is it with me and rain lately? My clients are my good luck charm. I keep getting lucky with clear skies). The temperatures did plummet, but the quilt and your warm embraces kept each other warm. Your dog Sadie was just almost small enough to fit in my camera bag….bring her to the next session and I will see if I can sneak her out of your site … Sammy would love to play with cuter than cute dog!

These next two are the same image, but the black and white vs color here had me torn….so you decide, which is your favorite processing on this image?

Meredith and Andy Engagements

dallas fort worth wedding photographer (1)

They are getting married in June of 2012 in Dallas at Highland Park United Methodist Church, they both live in Oklahoma, he was a college baseball pitcher, she is a recent college grad, and they were high school sweethearts. We started OUR relationship long-distance. Over the phone at least and I was so delighted to meet this couple in person. We anxiously started the day with a bit of an over-cast fright and also we just happened to schedule a shoot at the Ballpark in Arlington during a renovation and a Dallas Cowboy Game (or when it was over and the fans were all exiting the over-sized stadium near by). Needless to say, we were a little confined with our space selections upon arrival at the park. They were texting me and calling on their way frantic about the weather and traffic. I was about to pull plan B out, we I saw a break in the clouds and decided we were going to do it!

Meet Meredith and Andy – two people that I am pretty sure if it HAD started to rain, would have danced and sang in it for the entire engagement session. I was giggling and having a fun time with them as soon as we stepped out of the car. We discussed our game plan, crossed the street and aimed for the fences with our first request. Meredith had inboxed the Ballpark in Arlington and never heard back about shooting inside. Since we didn’t have a NO, we decided to ask for a YES. Aimed with our most persuasive faces and a love story no one could resist, we entered the gift shop to find the park was a complete mess from renovations. So, we opted for the exterior PLUS Andy was getting a little squeamish anyway from their recent loss in the World Series and needed some fresh air. A quick wardrobe change and some gorgeous golden rays of sunlight later, we wrapped up the shoot in Arlington.

Michelle and Richard’s Engagement Session in Richardson

dallas wedding photographer with michelle and richard (1)

Its a classic story of boy meets girl at Church. Well, maybe not so classic. Romantic? Yes! Their wedding will be in Dallas and its just around the corner. When Michelle first contacted me about her wedding photography, I responded with, “wow – your wedding is really close” and her response to me was priceless….I know and I can’t wait! They have a shorter engagement than most, but all they want to do is spend the rest of their lives together and start that journey as soon as possible. Meet Michelle and Richard. I introduced you to them in a sneak peek a few weeks ago when I posted a few images from their Richardson Engagement Session. Our time wasn’t quite finished. We needed one more location to make the session complete and tell the story of Michelle and Richard. Richard grew up near Prairie Creek Park…literally. The creek was almost his front yard. He mentioned having part of the session there, but the early sunset had other plans for us on the day we scheduled the first part of the session. I was on my way to Houston, when we met during their lunch break to wrap the session in the creek. Oh, I am so glad we did. It was a perfect day. The sun was shining, the creek was running and the leaves were turning. The weather was perfect and so are Michelle and Richard. I have mentioned it before, but fall is truly my favorite time of year. I love the colors from the foliage, the sun seems to take on a different hue and the crisp fall air is so sweet.

They are kind, thoughtful and their love for each other is quite evident. Thank you for showing your love to me and letting me capture a giant milestone in your lives together. I can’t wait…..t-minus 10 days!

Bianca and D’Marcus are Engaged!

dallas wedding photographer maple manor hotel (1)

I first met Bianca and D’Marcus when Lauren (a fabulously brilliant Dallas Wedding Planner) introduced us. Bianca shared some amazing ideas she had for her wedding and their portraits sessions. She even created a board on Pinterest JUST for me. A few emails and lots of ideas later, we scheduled the engagement session. We started our session at The Maple Manor in Dallas and she wanted a very old Hollywood Glam look. The arrived to the venue with props in hand and lots of cuteness. I really loved the long strand of pearls and black lace gloves she brought with her. D’Marcus looked incredibly dapper in his suit and vest. The venue was the perfect location for the look she was going for. We wrapped our fun-filled session in a more urban setting in downtown Dallas. I nearly jumped when I saw Bianca’s jacket….ahhh – love that color. Doesn’t she look incredible in it?? We even had a seat at a stop on the DART rail. The light coming in from the moral was so beautiful. There are so many wonderful images from this session and these two were a dream to photograph. The love they have for one another is obvious and they were so natural in front of the camera. Enjoy this preview from their session! I am so excited to work with you both for this exciting time in your lives together. I love LOVE!!

Nicole and Clifton’s Fort Worth Engagement Session

dallas forth worth wedding photographer (1)

Nicole and Clifton greeted me in the parking lot of the Forth Worth Stockyards with two cute doggies, several heart shaped balloons, and a gorgeous vintage chair from Rent My Dust ready for some portrait fun! I love how natural the chair looked in this setting. We (Clifton) carried the chair around the stockyards and showed off his strong muscles. We were approached by security, a cowgirl and a few others about what we were up to that day. I had no idea about props in the Stockyards…in case you are wondering they are not allowed. The nice security officer kindly let us know in his Australian accent and we are all about following the rules, so picked up and moved the vintage chair to the brick streets for some more fun. These two had a pretty specific vision for what they wanted their session to look like and bringing visions to life is my favorite. I had a ton of fun with you both and am really looking forward to photographing your upcoming wedding.

Now I am off to go help a group of fellow Dallas Photographers with some lighting questions. Thanks for stopping by and have a super night!!

Stacy and Sean’s Engagement Session

dallas wedding photographer (1)

Stacy and Sean’s engagement session was in and around Downtown Dallas. We photographed uptown, downtown and all around. I like to treat engagement portraits like a first date. I get to know the couple and how they interact with each other. They get to know me and its a fun time.  After Stacy and Sean’s Dallas Engagement Session, the weather turned pretty nasty and we (my three year old and me) were huddled in the hallway with hard drives, a laptop, some blankets, a dog, and a phone playing angry birds.

These two sent me several emails and when we finally coordinated our schedules, we set a date for the portrait session and decided to hit the streets of Dallas! Kacie and John sent them .. hooray for client referrals! They took off work, sipped a few cocktails at Palomino’s near The Crescent Hotel in Dallas before the shoot and the rest is history. The inspiration for a lot of the shoot was fashion, fun and “not the typical” engagement portraits. I love my clients and I love it when they have so many incredible artistic ideas for their session and we are able to collaborate together to bring the vision to life. We coordinated the locations to different times of the day and it all worked flawlessly. The colors from this session were so fun and vibrant. I loved that there was such variety to the session and especially loved all of the inspiration Stacy sent me to prepare for the shoot. Most of the images she found inspiring where very high fashion photos. She and Sean scouted the locations we talked about before and made sure it fit with their overall vision. I had a field day editing these! Please enjoy these images as much as we did making them!

Nikke and Shaki’s Day After at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens

dallas wedding photographer nikke and shaki in fort worth botanical gardens (1)

Nikke sent me an email a few months back and expressed an interest in having professional portraits taken. She and Shaki didn’t have professional pictures taken during their wedding and wanted to document their union with me. They just returned from India where they had their reception with Shaki’s family and friends. While there they purchased traditional Indian attire and I am so happy they wore these beautiful pieces for their wedding day-after portraits with me. It was a sweltering 107 degrees and they let me know raw silk is not the best breathable fabric. Thanks for spending the evening with me at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens and making it through the hot Texas climate. Enjoy this sneak peek….more to come from this beautiful colorful day after session soon!

Leslie and Aaron Engagement Session in Dallas

bishop arts and turtle creek engaement session of leslie and aaron by dallas wedding photographer amy karp (1)

I usually post sneak peek photographs and teasers on my facebook page, but Leslie and Aaron’s engagement session was interrupted a few weeks ago by a torrential down pour that was scheduled for several hours after our session was supposed to end. We went our separate ways that rainy Saturday. The bizarre thing was that 5 miles outside of Dallas, the rain stopped and I chased rainbows all the way home. We met back up for the second part of their fun filled engagement session in Bishop Arts District in Dallas. Aaron asked me what I thought about the location and I thought it felt relaxed, urban and fun. Leslie agreed and then we started walking looking for things that caught our eye. We found a soda shop and I couldn’t help but ask them to go in. As I was photographing their session, I couldn’t help but feel like I was shooting stills for a movie. I really enjoyed spending time with these two and I am so excited about their wedding this fall.

I am so excited to have shared this cute soda shop with them. All of the sodas are color coded and they even have old fashioned red straws that are twice the size of the bottles in true old timey soda shop fashion. This place is a new concept with a traditional feel. I feel that way about my images.

Emily and Shelby’s Engagement Portraits in Fort Worth

Living in Dallas and shooting here mostly, I often forget how fun it is to shoot in Fort Worth. Its an hour away from the hustle and bustle of Dallas. We decided to have the session at the Forth Worth Stockyards – one of my favorite places to shoot Fort Worth engagement portraits. The clouds gave us some awesome diffused light for the the engagement session of Emily and Shelby. I met this adorable couple a short time ago when Sarabeth introduced me to them. She is working with them every the step of the way to perfectly orchestrate their Fall Fort Worth Wedding.

Emily chose a fun dress with three-quarter length sleeves and Shelby looked dapper in his different button up shirts.

I am super excited to work with Emily and Shelby this fall for their wedding. I know Sarabeth and her team will create a spectacular and memorable wedding!

Eva and Weldon’s Early Morning Dallas MiniSession

dallas wedding photography with eva and weldon

Weddings are in the air! Eva and Weldon signed up for my Dallas photography mini-session extravaganza. Our photography session was pretty early – a sunrise session, but totally worth getting up early to catch that beautiful sunlight. Sunsets and sunrises are may favorite time to shoot in natural light. Its so romantic and when shooting weddings, romance is definitely part of it. She is a transplant and now lives in Dallas and is in love with Weldon. They are looking to have their wedding in the Dallas area in the fall of 2012. I love talking with couples in the early stages of wedding planning. She is still researching wedding venues and I was happy to offer her suggestions to some of my favorites. I can’t wait to hear more about her planning as she moves closer to her wedding.

MiniSession with Jill and Patrick in Dallas

dallas wedding photographer amy karp-jill and patricks engagement session

Meet Jill and Patrick!…their wedding will be this summer. They have invited me to be a part of their intimate home ceremony at her family farm in East Texas. I am more than excited to reconnect with this great gal. She and I grew up in a small town and she and my brother went to school together. Today I am doing my mini-session day and she wanted to get signed up for her engagement session with Patrick. It was a fun day for an engagement session in Dallas. I am photographing them at White Rock Lake in Dallas…its one of my favorite places to get a great variety in such a small space and time frame. The winds were revving up to 30mph and I told them people pay millions for super-model-wind and today it was FREE! This couple is so cute together and their personalities are infectious. Laughs were had by all. Want to keep up with all the photography? Be sure to follow along on Facebook

Kim & Doug’s Dallas Engagement Portraits

Remember a few days ago when you briefly met Kim and Doug during their Dallas Engagement Portraits? Here they are again for their full post and they are such a fun couple! Kim was hard to get NOT to smile and Doug was hard to get TO smile. Both were equally fun and I am usually packed with the corniest jokes in my arsenal to get even the toughest guys to smile. Ask me how many of my jokes were from laffy taffy wrappers….that’s a good joke too!

Kim wore a super cute purple top with a white cardigan on top. The ruffles had me. I wanted to ask her where she got it because it was adorable.

The reflection image above is my favorite from the session. What’s your favorite image from this engagement session?

Here comes the sun….I LOVE this light. This session…this couple!

Thanks for having me to take your engagement portraits. I wish you both a beautiful wedding in Georgia, and remember, that offer still stands. I will try to fit myself in your carry-on. Happy wedding planning and I wish you both a lifetime for of love and laughter and may each day be better than the last!

Kim & Doug’s Turtle Creek & Arlington Hall Engagment Portraits (sneak peek!)

This time of year is always a special time for a lot of couples. They are planning their weddings and having Dallas engagement portraits taken all over the bustling city. Kim and Doug are two awesome folks doing just that. During our engagement session I asked them to use 3 words to describe their relationship. Doug immediately says two…”long” and “distance”. They have spent most of their relationship in separate cities. Kim is based in Dallas for work in accounting and Doug is stationed in Little Rock, Arkansas in the Air Force, and their wedding is a destination wedding in Georgia. When we did come up with the three words to describe their relationship, the engagement session took off. Doug and Kim are adorable together.

We started off the engagement session at Turtle Creek in Dallas and had some fun near the creek and around all of the lush greenery there. Afterward, we made our way over to Arlington Hall at Lee Park to finish with that gorgeous golden glow near sunset.

I won’t get to sneak into their luggage for their wedding, but it sounds amazing and I can not wait to see the photography from it!

Thank you for the fun time today! More to come soon :)

Film Inspired Engagement Session in Dallas with Kelley and Matt

I started planning this photography session with Kelley and Matt when Kelley learned about my vintage Canon Super 8. I took it to a Dallas engagement session she was filming….she does amazing work in Dallas Wedding Films. Kelley has been working on a film project for me and we decided to trade sessions. I can not wait to photograph her bridal portraits very soon…she is one of those people that will do what it takes to “get the shot”…people like her and Matt make me love what I do. This weekend was filled with two awesome Dallas pre-Wedding sessions.

They brought lots of props to photograph that afternoon; Deuce…one of the coolest dogs I know, Polaroids, flowers, wooden lips, a red heart balloon, a bowtie for Deuce, the Super 8, a floppy hat, a few outfit changes and shoes that were dangerously cute, and I am sure I am missing some items, but you get the idea. We had lots to play with. Props are great for photography sessions, as long as it flows with the tone of the session or the couple as a whole. Bringing a random item will leave me scratching my head how I can incorporate it into our session. Be sure you coordinate with me so we can be on the same page prior to photography time.

We started in Turtle Creek area of Dallas and made our way onto McKinney Ave in hopes we could catch the Trolley. I haven’t been able to have a session on, near, or remotely close to that thing yet! It never showed itself on the tracks while we waited, so then we completed our fun-filled engagement session very cinematicly on the roof of a building. Southside on Lamar to be exact. Thanks so much for the awesome day guys! I wish you a lifetime full of love and happiness! I wish I could make it to your wedding…I just know its going to be incredible!

Downtown Dallas Engagement Portraits with Melissa and Mark

I honestly couldn’t take a bad picture of these two…they are in love and it was written all over their gorgeous faces. Melissa and Mark hit the blog with a sneak peek from their engagement session, but you may recognize Melissa from another post of mine. She and I met during a photography workshop in Dallas while she was modeling and I was teaching. I loved her style, her charm and her ability to make everyone smile. She also modeled for Groom Sold Separately’s launch party last year, Alice in Weddingland. I begged her to model for this great cause and I talked her into it. When I heard she was engaged, I told her she HAD to be a contestant in the Texas Wedding Guide Cover Model Contest….she did….she was a finalist! Melissa’s makeup and hair was flawless. She does hair and makeup <<<brides, ask me for her info and I can get you in touch with her!>>> She sported threads from Anthropologie and coordinated amazingly with Mark.

Mark looked incredibly dapper in his sweater with a splash of color in his tie. I started the session by saying I didn’t feel like I needed to pose them because Melissa is used to being in front of the camera (found out she’s a celebrity too – she has had some tv roles recently!), but then she let me know Mark has a history in modeling also! You two are too much! Enjoy the images and I am so excited for your gorgeous Dallas wedding this fall!

I am so fortunate to have such wonderful creative couples to photograph. Mark and Melissa, you make my heart flutter! This was another session I did this weekend in Dallas for pre-wedding festivities.

Fun Downtown Dallas Session at Southside on Lamar

Who knew it would be 92 degrees yesterday on the April 1st? It was a bit warmer than we had anticipated, but despite the heat, I had the absolute pleasure to hang out with two awesome people in love. Matt and Kelley’s wedding is set for May in Fort Worth. I absolutely adore Kelley and Matt. They light up a room…even the night sky! Kelley is the talent behind Elle Films. She creates some of the most amazing wedding films I have ever seen. Collaborating with her is always a pleasure. Every time I see her name on the wedding vendor list at an event I am working, I know it will be super. Since Kelley is a Dallas Wedding Professional, she has been able to work with some amazing talent for her upcoming nuptials. I can not wait to see the wedding. I can’t be there, but I am sure it will be a stunning event. Matt and Kelley are a fantastic team and are so in sync, they even blink together ;) Here is just a sneak peek from last night on the rooftop of Southside on Lamar. So much more goodness to come….balloons, polaroids, a super-eight, and even a cute doggy named, Deuce!
