First off Michele ROCKS! She created this awesome texture pack and was so gracious to give it away to two photographers on the amy karp PHOTOGRAPHY Facebook fan page (are you a fan yet?). I am so excited to debut this with her. These textures are high-resolution goodness and you will certainly want to get your hands on a set. Check out this image below. If you want to see what it looked like without the texture, click here. WOW! Congrats to Eric and Melissa, I can’t wait to see what you create with these great textures! Please share!!!

karen | BRIDALS

I love wedding days! Today Karen is going to marry Gary and I get to go spend the day with two people in love and happy! Who doesn’t want to be surrounded by happy people?!?!?

Karen was more than prepared for our bridal session together. Her Aunt lives in Prosper, Texas and we shot her and Gary’s eSession there. I was shooting then and decided the bridals were going to have to take place at her house….I hope we are BFF’s now, because she has so many cool things to play with! If you see a tent in your backyard and lights flashing during the day, don’t be alarmed….you might have a photographer camping out! We were setting up the first scene when Karen shared the news we would also be playing with a horse! WHAT? That’s just crazy! I was so excited about this session! Karen, you are a superstar! I better stop now while my “exclamation!” key on my keyboard still works!!!

Enjoy these fun images as I am about to go rock Karen and Gary’s wedding!

little monkey | SAM-MAN

One little monkey jumping on the bed.
He fell off and bumped his head.
Called the doctor and the doctor said,
“No more monkeys jumping on the bed.”
No more monkeys jumping on the bed.

Sammy decided he was going to make a run for it when I asked him to stop jumping on the bed. The big problem: there was no more bed! Everyone keeps telling me how cute little boys are with black-eyes….the verdict is still out on that. I get a little sad every time I see that little fella with a shiner!

brandi + holman | SNEAK PEEK! eSESSION

I was truly smitten by these two love-birds yesterday when we shot their eSession.  The rain decided it was going to have a break from pouring down on us for the past (______days)! Brandi emailed me the night before and asked me what “Plan B” was in case of inclement weather….I responded, “bring an umbrella” ;) Enjoy this fun image of these two and try to guess where they met. As soon as I heard their story, I started brainstorming about adding a little fun to their session. They are so cute! Stay tuned for the rest of their yummy images!

kiley + matthew | WEDDING pt1

Matthew innocently went to the doctor for ear troubles not knowing that he had already been tagged by the nurse as a good candidate for Kiley to date! The day he came in the doctor’s office was of course focused on his ear problems but also highly focused on what a good catch he was. Afterall, Kiley’s mother worked at this doctor’s office. As he was checking out, it was decided by the office that he would be perfect for Kiley, so her mother did some investigative work. She had to make sure he was single! After that was determined, Kiley’s mother went in for the kill. Her mother came home that night with Matthew’s phone number! Kiley thought she was nuts and ran through thousands of reasons on why she shouldn’t call him. Kiley never did. One week later, Matthew had to go back to the doctor’s office. Kiley’s mother asked if she had ever called and Matthew said no, so Kiley’s mother gave Matthew Kiley’s phone number. Now the ball was in his court. Matthew took a week to call Kiley, he too thought of a thousand reasons on why he shouldn’t call her (why didn’t she call him, is she weird, etc). Matthew’s brother Phil really convinced Matthew to give it a shot and call Kiley. A Thursday night, Kiley was babysitting, Matthew called. The two talked for over an hour and were trying to plan a night they could get togeher. It wasn’t until a week later that they met for dinner (Kiley had an exam the next day). Matthew came and picked Kiley up at her house and boy did she think he was hot! The date was perfect, and both wanted to see more of each other, lots more. And the rest is history……

PS – I hijacked that story from their wedding site. I have to admit check up on you brides when you add me as your Facebook friend and send me links to your personal pages. PLUS, I get to tag you in my image uploads and who doesnt like getting tagged in a picture (except when its you, on a boat, in a 2 piece bathing suit! thanks Susie!!!) I share my personal life sometimes on my blogsite and a lot of my brides feel like they know me before we even meet. Its only fair for me to check up on you too ;)

Kiley + Matthew are the sweetest couple! I loved hanging out with them, their friends and family. I even swapped some photography information with her MOH, soooo sweet! The girls were all by Kiley’s side as she got ready in the hotel. I felt so special to be a part of that.

My sides were hurting from all the laughs. The night before I watched I Love You, Man and there was a deleted scene from the movie…very funny (check it out on YouTube). I showed the guys this video clip, so they knew what to expect from our formal photos. They obliged for the most part ;) Most of them grew up with Matthew in New York and they were picking on this little Texas girl! Sorry we were not able to get in the fountain for your images guys, but in hind-sight I truly think it was a blessing. Who wants to get bailed out of jail on their wedding night?!?!?!

A big thanks goes out to John for helping me rock this wedding! Stay tuned for the ceremony and reception. You don’t want to miss it. There will be break-dancing and boot-scootin’ – New York meets East Texas!

hailey + kyle | eSESSION

You were briefly introduced to Hailey + Kyle here, and now the time has come to bust out their super awesome eSession. Hailey + Kyle are getting married in January after a NINE year courtship! Wow! We started off shooting at the gorgeous SMU campus after trekking over from the Dallas Arboretum (note to self : they do not open until 9am!). After we got hot and steamy at SMU we made our way back to the Arboretum to finish our session. I love Hailey’s red heels and Kyle’s hat makes me want to sing country music! If you know me, you know I am constantly messing with my iPhone, so any chance I get to incorporate them into my work, I DO! Enjoy this yummy set of images and don’t forget to leave these guys some blog love. Why you ask…. ’cause they ROCK!

before + after | SHOW + TELL

Rewind about *cough* 25 years…yeah, I said it, I am rapidly approaching the BIG 3-0! What do you remember about SHOW + TELL in grade school? I remember being so excited to take something that absolutely everyone was going to flip over. I was lucky enough to open a Cricket Doll one Christmas when I was younger, and that was going to be the most radtastic-super-duper SHOW + TELL item when we went back to school from Christmas Break. All the other kids were going to freak, squeal and pee their pants (not necessarily in that order) when they saw it. I carefully took my new friend Cricket to school only to find out Cricket was a multiple! She had a bazillion twins and I was not the only one with a Cricket Doll! With that said, I will need to start with a disclaimer for the first post and all SHOW + TELL posts; these tips/tricks might not work for everyone, but they are things that work for me. I am just letting you behind the curtain for a sneak peek to see how this wizard works.

I was recently asked to teach a workshop and decided in preparation for this, I would start a SHOW + TELL section to my blog posts. This section will give tips I have picked up either learning from other great photographers or things I have learned on my own along the way.  To get this started I want to show a (GASP!) SOOC (straight out of the camera) image and then show you one that is processed. I generally strive to get the shot as close to the final product as possible, but sometimes things change on the fly. There might be a bird that makes an unexpected flight into my frame (true story!), or I may have a vision for the final image and know I will need to do editing in post processing to achieve that vision.

Body: Canon EOS 5dMarkii Lens: EF24-70mm f/2.8L USM Focal Length: 32mm ISO: 100 Exposure: 1/125 @ f / 2.8

My first image is to show how I process the skin. People have pores, freckles and sometimes a strand of hair blows in your face when I click my shutter, but guess what??? (GASP AGAIN!) If you don’t ask me to edit it out, I will probably leave your skin as is for the most part. I would share my recipe for toning, but then I am giving away the kitty! You will have to come back another post for that ;)

Your exits are here, here, here and here….it is the law for exit signs to be on the walls in public places, but not the law to have them in your image! I shot this image and not only needed to lose the exit signs in post processing, but also started to lose my subject. I used a different crop and some CS3 magic to wake this image up and I was able to break-dance after I finished!

I shot this image not noticing at the time the camper in the background. It is on the bottom right of the frame. With the help of my trusty clone tool in CS3, I was able to viola — park it somewhere out of my frame.

dara + pat | WEDDING pt2

It is Labor Day and we are about to run out to a party, but before I jet-set out of here, I want to share Dara + Pat’s part TWO of their wedding. A huge thanks goes out to Jeremy for helping me rock this wedding! I bring you back to Chandler’s Landing in Rockwall, TX to their story. An outdoor wedding at the end of July in Texas is H-O-T and add two people in love to that mix and it gets even hotter! I was so excited to be able to take pictures with them by the lake and have the boats and water as our backdrop. Pat LOVES X-Box (reference his groom’s cake) and Dara loves red (reference all the details and her dress!). Pat’s cake looked as if it was plugged into a monitor playing a slide-show of their lives – awesome idea! Enjoy these photos and Happy Labor Day to all! Congratulations Dara and Patrick and thank you for letting us share your joy!

allison + aaron | SNEAK PEEK!

Today was OUR turn behind the camera – family shoot downtown with the fabulous Allison Davis. It was a blast – heel kicks and chuck taylors all the way around! I did Allison and Aaron’s shoot last night. This trade-off has been in the making since (*cough*) May. I told my husband it was our anniversary gift! Since Allison is all about the romance, we certainly got steamy. Here are a few sneak peeks from our session last night. This first shot was literally moments before we were kicked out! Thank you security officer for letting me shoot for “just FIVE more minutes” :) Be sure to leave Allison and Aaron some blog love, they definitely deserve it after steaming up the blog like this!

dara + pat | WEDDING pt1

The rubies were red and the sky was blue……

Dara and Patrick said “I do” at Chandler’s Landing in Rockwall in July. The lake was a perfect backdrop for this fairy tale to happen. There were rows and rows of the yachts docked and this especially lent a lot of color to the scene. Dara’s nieces were the flower girls and they are so precious – I was seriously thinking about putting one in my shootsac to take home for my little guy, Sammy! Dara and Pat kept it pretty intimate; only one attendant on each side. Pat’s brother was his best man and Dara’s twin sister was her matron of honor. The wacky zany picture taking maniac ring bearer was Jett, patrick’s son. You will see what I mean about his description in the next wedding posts. Dara’s sister’s husband was the officiant. Talk about a family affair! On to the pictures – Dara sent me a message after seeing these images wanting to know how I got her dress in that tree – I will never tell, but I do have those ninja skills, remember? The last picture of this set has me wanting to say something I have been wanting to say for a LOOOOONG time. When Patrick opened his gift from Dara, he said, “is it a PS3?”, and since I knew what it was, my response “Dude, you are NOT gettin’ a Dell!”. This present was from Dara’s “other” part of her bridal session and supposed to be for HIS eyes only. I guess she and her new brother-in-law are a little closer than they were before……he was peeking – I SAW HIM DO IT! Enjoy this set of images and don’t forget to leave this handsome couple some blog love!
