Dallas Wedding Photographer amy karp :: PHOTOGRAPHY bio picture

my { PASSION }

I grew up in Dallas watching my Grandmother paint wonderful portraits of families.  As a little girl I was fascinated with her work and I regularly snuck into her back room where she painted and I sat in amazement of her skill.  All the easels, brushes, and portraits lying about only added excitement and intrigue to what she did.  It was then that I knew I would follow in her foot steps and be an artist.  I wound up taking drawing and painting classes in college to advance my own skills.  Then, I took a photography course and it all changed.  Once I discovered you could paint with light, it was all over, I was going to be photographer!  The way that one can manipulate their art with the proper photographic techniques had me hooked from the beginning.  Photography had me at "hello". My dear and wonderful husband Jon encouraged and pushed to me to follow my passion for the lens.  As a result I get to do what I love every day!  It continues to be more and more rewarding and satisfying with every press of the shutter.  It only makes it more special that I get to enjoy my passion for wedding photography with all of you! Dallas Photog Shootout | Sneak Peek!

Yesterday I had the pleasure to work along side some amazing wedding professionals in Dallas for the Photog Shootout at The Ryan Manor in Dallas. Rob “Ninja” Nicholson was such a blast to work with and travels the US having these shoot-outs in major cities. It was a fun project to collaborate with some great wedding people!

Catie Ronquillo, Natasha Brown, Anna Routh, and I were the tentacles in Dallas to make the workshop happen. A lot of planning went into this event and it was a huge success! Emily Hudspeth was one of the 3 make-up artists that worked her magic and transformed this shoot to a vintage 1940’s theme. Catie and I visited the very fun store, Dallas Vintage Shop to find these fabulous outfits for the models to wear. Jason Huang, Heather Essian, and I were the teachers for the 30 plus photographers eager to soak up the fun.

Here is just a sneak peak of some of the fun we had…more to come!

cortney, bryan, and bryant | DOWNTOWN DALLAS FAMILY PORTRAITS

Guess who is turning FIVE? Its Bryant…you may recognize this handsome young guy because he has graced the pages of www.amykarp.com a few times. The first time was back in 2007 and then again in 2008 and again in 2008. Is it possible to for someone to get cuter and cuter each time you see them? Seriously! We spent the afternoon in Downtown Dallas for our family portrait session together.

one day I am going to be able to say, “I remember him when…”

Happy Birthday, Bryant and thank you for choosing me to document another milestone :)
